BUSINESS TIP OF THE DAY

Passwords!
It may sound like an obvious one, you probably have to do it at work on a regular basis, but how often do you change you personal login details? We recommend changing your passwords around at least every few months. Try not to use personal data such as DOB, try to use different passwords for each account and get creative! Swap letters for numbers, use capitals and break things up with the odd ? or *. We also recommend you always log out of websites rather than just close the page down. It's better to be safe than sorry!

When starting out its easy to fall into the trap of trying to do everything yourself. Its worth thinking of the time you spend on a job, especially one you dont enjoy - maybe time would be better spent on the job you do enjoy and set up business to do.

“Get your business off to the best start with practical guidance from experts – our experience could save you from potentially expensive mistakes”

There are many people who would like to work for themselves and start a business, but who are understandably daunted by the abundance of potential difficulties and problems. What happens about tax? What about VAT and National Insurance? What tax relief can I claim on my expenditure? Do I need a separate bank account? Should I have a Limited Company? Do I need help from my bank?

These are just a few of the considerations and anyone interested in starting any sort of business needs advice. Most qualified accountants do not charge at all for an initial meeting to discuss starting a new business. After all, many small businesses become larger businesses in the future.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the advice needed is: How do I give my proposed business the very best chance of success? The answer starts with producing a business plan, and seeking the help of a qualified accountant to either produce or assess a plan is often a crucial step towards running a successful business.
